Thurne, Ashby and Oby Memorial Wood

At an Archive Group meeting about two years ago a proposal was made that we plant some memorial trees. This idea grew into that of a community memorial wood.

Norfolk County Council was approached, by the Archive Group, regarding obtaining a small piece of land for this. Conversations with them proved fruitless. Alan and Jean Cooke have now offered a piece of their land and transfer of the ownership of the land (1.25 acres) will be made to Thurne Parish Council - this process is in hand (September 2018).

It was proposed and agreed at the Thurne Parish Council Meeting on 6th September 2018 that a management committee be set up to plan the planting of the trees and manage the wood now and for posterity. The area is to be fenced with protective netting and hedging planted between September and November 2018.

It is hoped parishioners will be interested and become involved in this exciting project. Help with planting the wood and perhaps the donation for a tree will be welcomed. The land will be available for planting this Autumn (2018).

The next steps of tree planting as well as the overall concept and design will be discussed at the next Thurne Parish Council meeting on Thursday 8th November - please try to attend if you wish to support this project in any way and/or contact the Jonatham Molineaux (Chairman of TPC) on 01493 369721 or email the Clerk.

This webpage will be updated as progress is made.
